Special facsimile edition of Castiglioni Planisphere, 1525, original conserved in the Biblioteca Estense Modena (Italy).
The World Map Castiglioni is a great menu, prepared by a total of four rolls that make total dimensions of 214 x 81.5 cm. In the original title, the first adjective indicates the description of the world that he had in 1525 and according to the particular technique used by the cartographer. The Charter is attributed to Diego Ribeiro, “pilot Maior” of the House of Trade in Seville (Office of the Spanish crown appointed to draft the innovations arising after the new geographical discoveries) and is considered of great interest because for the first time visually document the theories of the sphericity of the Earth.
According to tradition, the Portulano was given by Emperor Charles V to Baldassarre Castiglioni, apostolic nuncio in Spain and author of the famous “Cortegiano”. The specimen was in Mantua until 2000, when the Italian government bought for the return to the Library of Modena. The Planisferio was placed in a special area on purpose to be displayed in the Hall of the Estense Library “Campori” along with other important cartographic documents.
The facsimile edition of this beautiful and interesting world map was made in their original format, with an additional volume (in Italian) and the registration certificate, presented in a box kit 83 x 16 x 16 cm. The edition, numbered and limited, was only 499 copies for everyone.
