Description

The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quijote of La Mancha. IV Centenary Edition, adorned with 356 engravings by Gustavo Doré, fully commented by Diego Clemencín (1765-1834), and preceded by a critical study by Luis Astrana Marín, plus a summary index of the illustrators and commentators of Don Quixote by Justo García Morales. Ediciones Castilla, Madrid, c.1965 (although the year of publication is not stated).

This edition, although in a single volume, is one of the most complete and interesting that has been made of the immortal work of Cervantes, since in its 2,100 double-column pages it has everything: the complete work of Don Quixote, many e interesting illustrations, critical study, comments and notes. It is a book that should not be missing in any library, Quixote collector or bibliophile in general.

To these editorial characteristics we must add that the copy we offer is spectacularly beautiful, unique and exclusive due to its handmade full leather binding with reliefs of Don Quixote motifs both on both sides and on the spine. A very special binding that enhances the edition and the universal work of Don Quixote and makes you feel a special pleasure when holding it in your hands and being able to delve into the adventures of the Gentleman Knight.

Book format 15 x 19 cm in full leather with reliefs of quixotic motifs and relief decorations. Tinted edges, 2 guide tapes. 2,100 pages on bible paper and with double column texts, where the work of Cervantes and the comments and notes of Clemencín are practically divided in half. Full page illustrations and headers at the beginning of each chapter. Easy to use and read.

Although the editor says “Edition IV Centenario”, the fact is that the work was published in 1965 (this editor made several editions of this same work and in the later ones he did put the year of publication: 1966 and 1967) and we were unable to find The centenary; Perhaps the closest is the birth of Cervantes in 1547 or the 350 years of the Second Part of Don Quixote.
