Description
In 2004, the 500th anniversary of the death of Queen Isabella I of Castile, better known as Isabella the Catholic, was commemorated. Ephemeris that passed without pain or glory in a country complexed by its history and still dominated by the black legend. However, to commemorate an event of such importance for the Spaniards, a 12-euro silver coin was issued, minted and put into circulation.
The obverse of the coin reproduces the superimposed effigies of their Majesties the Kings Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía. The reverse contains the effigy of Queen Isabella I of Castile with the years of her birth (1451) and her death (1504).
