Christopher Columbus changed world history, politics, science … and a half years later, all we know is the legacy of the greatest adventure of all time: the discovery of America.

In commemoration of the V Centenary of the death of Christopher Columbus, the Royal Mint struck a silver coin 12 Euros.

This coin, minted in silver of 925 thousandths, reproduces on the obverse the overlapping effigies of Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. In the reverse depicts an image of Christopher Columbus, according to the portrait of Rafael Tejedo conserved in the Naval Museum in Madrid. On the right the three boats that accompanied the Admiral on his encounter with the New World are represented.
