Description

Facsimile edition of the original 15th century manuscript, which is currently preserved in the Royal San Carlos Borromeo Monastery in Zaragoza. Made in Flanders. One of the most beautiful copies of European Books of Hours, from the great Ghent-Bruges school, and one of the most important preserved in Spain.

Codex attributed to the Teacher of the Prayer of 1500, although there are those who have seen in him the hand of authors such as Hans Memling or Gerard David.

It belonged to Bishop Juan Rodríguez de Fonseca, from where he has received his name, one of the most important characters in Spain of his time, both in matters of Church and State. Important had to be given that this Book of Hours passed censorship and in one of its pages we see images of naked people and in an erotic and implicitly sexual attitude.

408 pages in fine vellum of 12.5 x 18.5 cm, with 46 full-page thumbnails, plus 22 with large borders surrounding a text with another small thumbnail.

Facsimile bound in leather with superb fittings in both planes and 2 closures in aged silver, format 15.5 x 20.2 cm. Presented in a beautiful elm root conservation box, with glass lid, 26.2 x 20.2 x 8 cm format. 2011 edition, limited and numbered with notarized authentication.

Accompanied by the corresponding study book, published in 2016 and bound in hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. Format 25.2 x 30.5 cm. 340 pages An excellent study that includes the transcription in Latin and translation of the original text. Texts in Spanish.

This facsimile was the institutional gift of the President of the Government of Spain to Pope Francis I during his visit to the Vatican on October 24, 2020.
