Description

Italian genius. Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio is a work of art in book form designed to mark the 700th anniversary of the creation of the Divine Comedy, and is a tribute to the founding fathers of the Italian language.

Edited by the publisher FMR (Franco Maria Ricci) in 2008. The work opens with a text by Yevgeny Yevtushenko, one of the greatest poets of life, which testifies to the importance and universality of Dante’s genius. It follows the life of Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio by Giannozzo Manetti, humanist of the Renaissance, and a selection of the prose of De dignitate et excellentia hominis published in Florence in 1547, an unpublished text rare in modern times.

The book’s texts are the visual counterpoint to the 76 images taken from illuminated manuscripts as a result of careful research by the publisher in libraries around the world.

The edition is enriched with the artistic contribution of the master Marcello Jori: ten paintings inspired by the life and work of the three main geniuses of Italian letters. In addition, the master Marcello Jori has created six beautiful chromatic interventions in an ideal dialogue with the images of illuminated manuscripts. The reproduction of these modern “old” works required the use of a special printing technique for six colors, in order to show so perfect and brilliant every small hue and color.

The printing of texts and images is done in a special paper of pure cotton made specifically to the round form for this edition by Cartiere Magnani. Within each individual sheet goes the watermark that represents the symbol of the series and makes it impossible to reproduce each copy of the work.

The ten paintings inspired by the life and work of Dante, Petrarca and Boccaccio, designed by the master Marcello Jori, were made in the printing workshop Berardinelli Luigi with the technique of the screen by hand. Printed on special paper from Cartiere Magnani, they are the result of seven different color transitions, made one by one to the screen printing machine. Thanks to the particular density of the inks and the screen printing technique, identical images could be obtained from the originals.

The binding phase was carried out by Steri binding binders in Corciano. The skins are selected and cut carefully and have been applied manually after embossing with warm gold entrances.

Master Marcello Jori made the internal triptych of cast bronze with bas-reliefs with the technique of lost wax, refined and chiselled by hand and covered with 24 carat gold, inspired by the figures of the three protagonists of the work.

And finally, as a main dish, the plate with the images of Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio was placed on the cover of the book, as an extreme synthesis of what the reader will find in the pages of the volume. The sculpture was cast in bronze in the art casting of José Belotti and covered with gold foil.

A book that is a jewel of sculptural and artistic art. Texts in Italian. Limited edition to 975 copies numbered and signed by the artist Jori and by the publisher.
