The original, which is permanently exhibited in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, was made by Egyptian artists, and was part of the funeral trousseau of the royal tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, discovered in 1922 in the Egyptian necropolis of the Valley of the Kings .

Between the pieces this throne was found that must have belonged and used the monarch in life. The Ceremonial Chair of Tutankhamun was the most outstanding of all the chairs or seats that appeared in the tomb of Pharaoh, is made of wood inlaid or lamados precious materials such as gold or silver.

It is a chair with square shapes and four legs in the shape of lion’s claws, its appearance may seem too heavy but in reality a large part of the surface is not solid but plated in precious materials. In the front we see two lion heads on the boot of the legs and a small footrest as a footstool in which are represented some enemies of Egypt that the pharaoh would trample every time he acceded to the throne. In the area of arms, different symbols refer to the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt, as well as the figure of Pharaoh.

Undoubtedly, the most interesting part of the throne is the back where exquisite bas-reliefs have been carved; In this support an everyday scene is represented, the figure of Tutankhamun is being anointed in oils by his wife Anjesenamón. The rays of the sun that descend on the couple symbolize the god Aton who is shown as protector of the royal couple. The figures belong to the Amarna style, with prominent belly and elongated necks.
