Description

Facsimile edition of the year 2000 from the Moleiro publishing house of the original manuscript that is kept in the National Library of Russia, Saint Petersburg.

Li livres dou tresor is an encyclopedic work by Brunetto Latini (circa 1230-1294), Florentine politician, poet, historian and philosopher, teacher and friend of Dante. Written in France and in French during the author’s exile (1260-1267). It consists of three parts: the first begins with Biblical history, the history of Troy, Rome, and the Middle Ages, followed by a natural history where extensive information on astronomy and geography is collected. It also deals in detail with some species of animals and birds. The second part deals with ethics: it gathers thoughts of moralists, classical and modern, and studies the vices and virtues proper to men. The third and last part is the most original of this work, dealing with issues related to politics and the art of governing, which, according to the author, is the most important and the noblest of all sciences (time has not given the reason, quite the opposite).
