In 1999 Versol published a luxury facsimile of the Book of Hours of Carlos V that is preserved in the National Library of Spain (Cód. Vitr. 24-3). Said facsimile, whose last retail price was 4,850 euros, and of which only 575 numbered copies were made, is out of print.
Given the extraordinary beauty and importance of said codex, Versol later produced a new, much cheaper edition of said work in 2002, in art book format, which is the one offered here.

Study book: at the end of the facsimile of the codex, a second part of 30 pages is added containing comments and a catalog of miniatures.
This manuscript is, according to Durrie, “Singularly interesting work for the history of illumination.” Of its 336 pages, 320 are profusely illustrated with paintings of high pictorial value and of great showiness and sensationalism, making this codex an exceptional jewel. Also included are many historiated miniatures (more than 700) in abundant and varied borders. It contains several on double pages (the victorious entry of Heraclius into Jerusalem with the Cross of Christ, David’s victory over Goliath or the meeting of the three Death Knights), which would be enough to qualify the codex as a masterpiece.
Obviously with this book you will not have a luxury reproduction of the original codex, but due to its beauty and the extraordinary quality of its illuminations, it would be enough by itself to deserve to be in any library and enjoy it at all times.
