The Great Hours of Anne of Brittany (dated between the years 1503-1508) is, without a doubt, the masterpiece of French painting, as befits a manuscript intended for the queen of France twice: with Charles VIII and with Louis XII.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We have always said that the codices are like small miniature pictorial museums, and this jewel of a manuscript is a living example of this. Jean Bourdichon painted almost fifty full-page scenes framed in gold against the background of the black-stained parchment, as if they were small canvas paintings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The master Bourdichon was a court painter of Louis XI, Carlos VIII, Luis XII and Francisco I, and his paintings constitute a clear advance from Gothic towards the Renaissance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">This copy corresponds to the facsimile edition of the Moleiro publishing house from 2008. There is another edition of the Versol publishing house, cheaper and equally very beautiful, that we also have available, with the title of Book of Hours of Ana de Bretagne.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Facsimile characteristics: size 20 x 30.5 cm. 476 pages, 49 full-page miniatures, 337 marginal illuminations with plants, insects and small mammals. Painter: Jean Bourdichon. Place of origin: Tours. Written in Latin. Numbered edition limited to 987 notarized copies, out of print for years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Characteristics of the study book: 23 x 34 cm format. 400 pages. 225 illustrations. Content: Description of the manuscript, by Marie-Pierre Laffitte (general curator of the Manuscripts department of the B.N.F.); Anne of Brittany, by Georges Minois (historian of Brittany); plants in the Great Hours of Anne of Brittany, by Mich\u00e8le Bilimoff (research engineer in archeology, Center National de la Recherche Scientifique; iconography and iconology of the Great Hours of Anne of Brittany, by Carlos Miranda Garc\u00eda-Tejedor (Doctor of History ).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Facsimile and study book are presented in a beautiful box-type case, for better protection of the codex.
