The oldest documents in the history of golf. After more than three years of research and in collaboration with the National Library of Scotland, the Scottish Parliament Archives, The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, and the Edinburgh City Archives, this set of facsimiles has been published and dubbed “Key Documents in the History of Golf.”<\/p>\n

The aim of this collection is to offer the general public reliable reproductions of those documents that played a crucial role in the early history of the game. It begins with the oldest surviving document mentioning the game of golf, dating back to 1457, and concludes with a reproduction of the first rules for playing it, established in 1744.<\/p>\n

Other documents include the prohibitions decreed by King James II (1457), King James III (1471), and King James IV (1491) regarding the game of golf; documentation from the High Treasurer of the Kingdom showing the purchase of clubs and balls by the king in 1506; the document granting the license to manufacture balls in Scotland; Thomas Kincaid’s Diary with the first instructions on how to swing; and the stipulations established by the Edinburgh City Council for the First Open Competition.<\/p>\n

Discover the obstacles the game had to overcome and the figures who played a pivotal role in its development and consolidation. The work includes a reproduction of the original rules established in 1744 by the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers for the first open competition organized by the Edinburgh City Council in 1744, the Silver Club Competition.<\/p>\n

The entire collection is presented in an elegant green cloth-covered box, measuring 35.5 x 40 x 8 cm, which houses and protects:
