Beautiful reissue of the work “Domestic Enemy: The Sparrow. Persecuted by Two Patriots,” preserving the spelling of the original from 1802, by an unknown author. Printed in Madrid in 1992 and accompanied by 14 beautiful original etchings by Mariano Villegas.
Bound in red leather with gilt ironwork, spine ribs, tinted top edge, 16 x 21.5 cm. 214 pages plus the extra-large etchings, protected with fine paper.
Numbered edition limited to 230 copies. Original etchings and burin engravings by the artist Mariano Villegas and signed in pencil.
This is a curious work that was first published in 1802 in Madrid. Its full introduction reads: “Domestic enemy: The Sparrow, pursued by two patriots. Dialogues demonstrating the extremely serious damage and harm caused by sparrows due to their multitude and voracity. Their nature, properties, and method of extinction are also discussed. By a zealous person for the public good and the State.” The author of the text, therefore, remained anonymous.
