In 1344 King Pedro IV of Aragon, Barcelona III, II of Valencia, Mallorca I, who reigned from 1336-1387, provided that the “Ordinances of the House and Cuts” were drafted along the lines of the “Laws Palatine “Jaime III of Mallorca. They concluded in Valencia, the new book collecting Ordinations and Ceremonial, broke the purposes of the monarch and the same 3 copies were made in the vernacular, for the headquarters of Zaragoza, Barcelona and Valencia.
The Codex starts with the Ordinances of the Royal House that are structured based on four main offices of the same: Butler, Chancellor, Master Rational and Camerlengo. They include the smallest details of private life of King and his house. The introductory paragraph of Ceremonial is written in romance. It closes with the following inscription: “Datum in Valencia XX days ianero in anyo of our senyor MCCCos Nativitat cinquanta III”. Eve preparations are described, and then describes how the ceremony takes place. The second paragraph of Ceremonial refers to the Consecration and Coronation of the Queen.
The facsimile volume, original of which is preserved in the Library of the Bartolomé March Foundation, consists of 116 folios of parchment, written on both sides, bound in leather-wrapped table with golden nails and metal closures, and a size of 30 x 39 cms. Throughout its history it has received the names of Manuscript of San Miguel de los Reyes and Manuscript Phillips.
As usual, the facsimile edition, made in 1994, is complemented by a codicological volume made, in this case, by Dr. Bonifacio Palacios Martín. Bound in fabric and spine skin matching the codex. 28.5 x 38.5 cm. 232 pages.
