Facsimile edition of the twelve books of “The Aeneid” by Virgil. Toledo edition from the year 1555, first edition in Spanish of the translation of “The Aeneid” by Dr. Gregorio Hernández de Velasco. Original kept in the National Library of Spain.
This edition was enriched with a frontispiece by Virgil, twelve illustrations from the period and with the facsimile edition of “The thirteenth book of the Aeneid” by Mapheo Veggio (1407-1458), the “Letter of Pythagoras moralized by Virgil”, and the table of proper names of characters and toponyms that appear in the thirteen facsimile books, belonging to the Zaragoza edition of the year 1585. It also contains an extensive preliminary study by Ángeles Cardona.
Beautifully bound book in embossed and profusely gilded leather, guide tape, gilded top edge. Format 21 x 27.5 cm. 416 pages on excellent laid paper with the watermark of the Círculo del Bibliófilo.
