Description

Journey to the Alcarria, travel account of the Spanish writer Camilo Jose Cela (1916-2002), Nobel Prize for Literature and Cervantes Prize, published for the first time in 1948. In 1996 Círculo de Lectores and Galaxia Gutenberg, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the birth of its author and for the delivery of the Cervantes Prize, they made a facsimile edition of the original manuscripts that gave rise to the book, limited to 980 venal copies, numbered and signed by the author.

The writer made his famous walk through the Alcarria between June 6 and 15, 1946. During it, he was taking notes in a notebook of lined paper with cardboard covers, in which he also included other materials: some flowers collected on the way, the photographs taken by Karl Wlasak during the trip and some press clippings.

The manuscript is completed with three notebooks of squared paper and a cardboard cover in which the writer wrote the definitive version of the work for its first edition in Revista de Occidente, which was published in Madrid in 1948.

This facsimile offers the manuscript of the work with absolute fidelity to the original in all its details. To do this, following the instructions of Camilo José Cela, the notebooks that had been kept bound were separated. This is the reason why the first one, which no longer had its covers, is presented in unsewn sheets.

For this edition, finally, we had the inestimable help of Francisco García Marquina, who collected and pressed the more than ten thousand flowers of the Alcarria that all the copies of the print run have required.

The edition presented all the manuscripts, photographs, flowers and newspaper clippings in a cloth case and this in turn in a cover of the same cloth. We offer you this unique and exclusive specimen presented in a luxurious leather case integrated into a leather case. At the same time we give you the facsimile edition that Círculo de Lectores published in 1987 as a commemorative edition of its 25th anniversary with the facsimile text of the first copy of the first edition and photographs of the trip. Specimen in very good condition and also presented in an exclusive leather sheath.

Case measures 18.5 x 24.5 x 7 cm; of the sleeve 19 x 25.8 x 7.8 cm.
Measurements of the gift book cover (bound in hard cover with dust jacket, guide tape, format 17 x 24.8 cm. 248 pages) 16.8 x 25.8 x 4.2 cm.
