Juan de Avignon (1323?-1418?) was a Spanish doctor who authored the book entitled “Sevillana Medicina, which deals with the conservative and curative mode of those who live in the very distinguished city of Seville: which serves and takes advantage of any other place destos reynos”, of which a facsimile edition was made in 1995. In his work he exposes the diseases that occurred in the city of Seville during the period from 1353 to 1382. His name before converting to Christianity was Moses ben Samuel of Roquemaure. It is good to note that a third of the work emphasizes eating and drinking.
