Incomplete, and in some cases unfaithful, have been the versions of the Indian poem “El Ramayana” that have been published to date in Spanish. This epic, one of the greatest masterpieces of human genius, appears, therefore, for the first time poured into Spanish speech in the entirety of its 24,000 double verses, generally slokas, or couplets, of 16 syllables in the original versification; There are also other meters of ingenious art in the 500 chapters, or Sargas, of which the 7 books consist (Balakanda, Ayodhyakanda, Aranyakanda, Kiskindhakanda, Sundarakanda, Yuddhakanda and Uttarakanda), all of them of different lengths, into which the poem is divided .
The Ramayana has been translated into almost all the Aryan and Dravidian languages of India, and most of the European ones. There is even a Latin version. For its translation into Spanish, in addition to other credible sources, the version of Alfred Roussel, who was a professor of Sanskrit at the University of Freiburg, has been used mainly. The versification of the original couplets has been resolved into what might be called a prose poem, a formula that has been adopted by most translators of this impressive epic poem. The cadence of the phrase retains its original rhythm, and the syllabic measure of each and every one of the verses has been scrupulously respected.
In impeccable condition, as fresh from the printing press, a true luxury.
