Period binding in hardcover cardboard lined in paper with embossed decoration, leather spine with gilt title. Format 25.2 x 20 cm. 36 + 32 (blank with watermark) pages of fine laid paper, plus 12 plates/plates/engravings in black and white and color outside pagination on heavier paper (plate 13 exists but is printed as page 29 in the paper). Tinted edges.

Rare and beautiful original textbook on topography, geology and cartography that, with the help of symbols and chromatic nuances, orders the image of the map, as detailed as it is clear and easy to grasp. The panels with very finely engraved details, such as water depths, rocky and sandy shorelines, grassy landscapes, forests, parks, residential and industrial settlements to civil and military installations. One panel with “Signes Conventionnels”, one with “Écriture moulée” type examples, the last sheet with a “Tableau des anciennes et des nouvelles échelles”.

Original from 1831, in French, printed in Paris. rare specimen. Scuffed corners, some slightly tanned leaves with virtually no rust spots, but overall in very good condition for almost 200 years.
