The Apocalypse of Lyon can be dated between 1445 and 1450 and was written in the literary and artistic environment of northern France, in the region of Picardie and Artois, can be said that most likely occurred in Arras or Cambrai. The manuscript was preserved during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in the area of ​​Arras; two exlibris of two renowned bibliophiles northern France, Alexandre le Blancq and then Maximilien Charles de Coupigny, attest to this. Currently this beautiful manuscript is kept in the Municipal Library of Lyon (France), Ms. symbol 0439.

The text consists of 230 Latin verses; the top eight, by way of introduction, tell the reader how to jointly address the text and images, and the last eight, the conclusion. The rest is divided between the thumbnails and four lines per page. The two lines located above the images summarize the Apocalypse, while the two below are a commentary for each image.
