Description

Great study book that accompanies the facsimile of the Siloé publishing house on Pedro Texeira’s Atlas, considered unanimously as the most important cartographic project of the seventeenth century, being at the same time, one of the most valuable and beautiful atlases in the entire history of Spain .

The original 1634 codex is kept in the Austrian National Library (Cod. Min. 46) and was commissioned by Felipe IV to the Portuguese cosmographer Pedro Texeira. Its enormous importance is reflected in the fact that 90% of the towns that appear in it will not have another document that reproduces its image until well into the 20th century.

Bound in a hard cover with a color dust jacket, format 25 x 34.5 cm, thick, unusual for the usual study books of luxury facsimiles. The book is delivered with an open box-case for better conservation, format 24.2 x 35 x 6 cm, something that is not usual, lined in color and matching the binding of the book.

This study book reproduces the complete facsimile, as well as the manuscript made by Pedro Texeira with the textual description of the expedition’s work, as well as its transcription. Therefore, it is not only a study book of a large luxury facsimile, but can be considered as a complete facsimile edition.

This article is only about the study book that accompanies the facsimile. New and sealed copy, brand new.
